Dialysis proposition
Protect the Lives of Dialysis Patients Act
Summary
- The bill would establish universal single-payer health care coverage called CalCare for all residents of California. According to Kaiser, the bill would dismantle Kaiser (health plan and providers) and other health insurance plans in California. Medicare members in California would be mandated to switch to CalCare and Medi-Cal would fall under this plan. This plan includes pharmaceuticals and workers compensation.
Position
- LASCC's Position: Oppose
- The union group, SEIU-UHW, is working on their third attempt in trying to pass their heavily defeated (63% no votes in 2020) bill in the mid elections with almost identical terms as the previous proposals. This proposition for 2022 mandates that every dialysis clinic in California have a physician or nurse practitioner in every clinic during all operating hours doing administrative duties. This measure would increase dialysis clinic costs by up to $367 million annually or between $345k and $608k per clinic. This will reduce access to needed dialysis services and increase costs on patients/consumers.
