Purpose
Increases motorist insurance coverage.
This bill would, commencing on January 1, 2025, increase the amount of liability insurance coverage an owner or operator of a motor vehicle, and an owner of a vehicle used to transport passengers for hire not regulated by the Public Utilities Commission, is required to maintain to $30,000 for bodily injury or death of one person, $60,000 for bodily injury or death of all persons, and $15,000 for damage to the property of others as a result of any one accident.

Position
- SB-1107 will likely increase auto insurance premiums, as well as increase lawsuits at a time when everything is already very expensive and likely to be much more expensive in the near future.
- Note: Assemblymember Mike Gipson is on the Assembly Insurance committee who is meeting on 6/22/2022 and is scheduled to vote on this legislation. I inquired about Gipson’s position on how this would affect the businesses and communities financially and would increase lawsuit. Gipson’s staff expressed similar concerns.
