Purpose
- SCAQMD is considering a phase out of all natural gas boilers and water heaters for small and large businesses and multifamily units starting 2029.
Status
- June 2024 - SCAQMD passed rule 1146.2 the nation's first rule to electrify industrial boilers and water heaters.
Position
- Recommended Position: Oppose
- In addition to major costs to facilitate, the current electrical infrastructure would likely not be able to handle the large increase in electrical usage and would require a significant cost to improving the infrastructure.
- Either the property owners or a business with a triple net lease may be required to make the improvements at their expense.
- We believe this is the precursor to requiring single family residents to do the same.
