Los Angeles hotel worker minimum wage ordinance (lahwmo)
Council File: 14-1371-S13
Purpose
- Proposal to increase hotel worker minimum wage to $25-$30, for hotels with 60 or more employees.
Position
- History: 09/23/2024 - Trade, Travel, and Tourism Committee continued item to/for a date to be determined due to September 23, 2024 meeting cancellation.
- Recommended Position: Oppose
- Hotels, which are among the fastest growing segments of the hospitality industry, have only one revenue source.
Some city council members are already talking about moving this to the next level, beyond hotels, and into the general population’s wages, which ultimately would affect everyone. At $25-$30 dollars an hour, this will make the ability for our members who own businesses to earn a profit even more difficult.
