california Assembly - Constitutional Amendment
The Taxpayer protection and government accountability act (2023-2024)
Status: The California Supreme Court ruled unanimously to bar the measure.
Purpose
Eligible for the November 2024 ballot, TPA empowers voters with the right to approve or reject all new state and local taxes. It increases accountability and transparency so politicians spend our tax dollars more efficiently. It stops politicians from using “hidden taxes” disguised as fees to drive up the cost of government services.
Facts:
As an example, without TPA, the California Utility Commission is currently proposing California switch to an income-based utility rate system. This legislation may possibly provide private utility companies to have access to our IRS tax statements. Based on the statements, 75% of the population would pay the utility bills for the lower 25%, who would pay little to nothing for their utilities. For climate change activists, there is no incentive for the lower 25% to save water and electricity.
